Najee Harris
Najee Harris No timetable for practice return
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 3:38 PM
As Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions approaches, coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged that there is still no timetable for the return of Harris (eye) to practice, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Harris, who sustained an eye injury as the result of a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July, has been on the active/non-football injury list since July 17, though the running back has been spotted on the field during practice sporting shorts and a t-shirt. Until he's ready to return to drills, however, 2025 first-rounder Omarion Hampton should continue to see added first-team reps. Once Harris is available though, he'll be able to make his case to claim a key backfield role this coming season alongside his highly-touted rookie counterpart.
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton On track to see snaps in HOF Game
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 3:12 PM
Coach Jim Harbaugh noted Tuesday that Hampton is in line to play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
Analysis: While Harbaugh said that "veteran traditional starters" won't play in the contest, Hampton -- as well as rookie WRs Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith -- is slated to see snaps versus Detroit. Hampton, who was taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 22nd overall, is destined to play a key role this coming season in a Chargers backfield that also features Najee Harris, who is on the active/non-football injury list for the time being after sustaining an eye injury as the result of a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July.
Quentin Johnston
Quentin Johnston Not on track to play Thursday
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 3:04 PM
Coach Jim Harbaugh noted Tuesday that Johnston isn't in line to play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
Analysis: Harbaugh said that "veteran traditional starters" won't be seeing action in the contest, with Ladd McConkey being another Chargers' wideout not slated to play Thursday. In the wake of Mike Williams' retirement, McConkey and Johnston are on track to maintain key roles in the team's offense this coming season, with 2025 draftees Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith looking to make an immediate impact in a WR corps that also includes Derius Davis and Jalen Reagor (lower body).
Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert Won't start in Hall of Fame Game
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 2:34 PM
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that "traditional" starters, such as Herbert, won't suit up for Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: This comes as no surprise, as the Chargers will have three more opportunities for their top talent to get in some reps before Week 1. In Herbert's place, Trey Lance will get the nod under center over presumed No. 2 QB Taylor Heinicke. As for Herbert and the rest of the starters, their next chance for exhibition action will arrive Sunday, Aug. 10 versus the Saints.
Trey Lance
Trey Lance Will start Hall of Fame Game
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 2:33 PM
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that Lance will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Lions in the Hall of Fame Game, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Lance kicked off training camp as Los Angeles' third-string quarterback behind Justin Herbert and Taylor Heinicke, and he'll get a chance to start the team's preseason opener against Detroit. Undrafted rookie DJ Uiagalelei will likely work as Lance's backup. Almost all the Chargers' key starters on both sides of the ball figure to be held out of action Thursday, but Lance could get a chance to work with a handful of intriguing pass-catchers such as rookie fifth-round wideout KeAndre Lambert-Smith, 2024 seventh-round pick Brenden Rice, and rookie fifth-round TE Oronde Gadsden. The 25-year-old's rushing abilities also make him a candidate to rack up production even if the passing attack doesn't impress.
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey Sitting out Tuesday's practice
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 2:14 PM
Coach Jim Harbaugh said McConkey (undisclosed) won't practice Tuesday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: In particular, Harbaugh noted that the second-year wide receiver is "working through something minor," before adding that the traditional starters -- a group that includes McConkey -- won't suit up for Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions, per Rhim. As a result, McConkey seemingly will get the rest of this week off to get back to full health. Coming off a rookie campaign in which he racked up an 82-1,149-7 line on 112 targets in 16 regular-season games, he's poised to serve as QB Justin Herbert's top option in the Chargers' passing game in 2025.
Tre' Harris
Tre' Harris Strong practice Monday
Tue, Jul 29, 2025, 10:20 AM
Harris turned in one of his best practices of training camp Monday, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
Analysis: Harris showed off his strong hands and contested-catch ability while working in 11-on-11 drills helmed by Justin Herbert. While veteran wideout Jalen Reagor (lower body) has been sidelined, Harris and fellow rookie KeAndre Lambert-Smith have had an opportunity to make their marks in practice. With Mike Williams having retired, there's a path for Harris -- who the Chargers took in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft -- to earn a key role out of the gate this season, while working alongside returnees Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.
Jalen Reagor
Jalen Reagor Misses another practice
Mon, Jul 28, 2025, 2:51 PM
Reagor (lower body) isn't practicing Monday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Reports from the offseason program and opening days of training camp had Reagor getting a lot of first-team reps on offense, but he's now been unavailable for nearly a week. Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris, meanwhile, remain the favorites to take WR snaps in the regular season alongside Ladd McConkey. Reagor is more likely to jockey with Derius Davis and KeAndre Lambert-Smith for depth WR roles and return work.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith Flashing potential as outside WR
Thu, Jul 24, 2025, 1:56 PM
Lambert has been an early standout for the Chargers through the first week of training camp, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The sudden retirement of Mike Williams coupled with a minor undisclosed injury for Jalen Reagor has opened the door for both Lambert-Smith and rookie second-round pick Tre Harris to compete for a boundary wide receiver role on the first-team offense. Lambert-Smith has the prototypical size (6-foot-1) and speed (4.37 40-yard dash at 2025 NFL Combine) to be a conventional field stretcher for an offense that has struggled to find that role for years, and he figures to be in the mix for consequential playing time regardless if he's officially listed as a starter come Week 1.
Tre' Harris
Tre Harris Not part of first-team offense yet
Thu, Jul 24, 2025, 1:50 PM
Harris has been playing behind veterans Jalen Reagor and Quentin Johnston to begin training camp, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Any bit of news regarding the Chargers' first-team wideout usage is noteworthy, but it's hard to read too much into the first week of camp given the rookie just signed his contract July 17. Perhaps more importantly with the sudden retirement of Mike Williams and reportedly minor training camp injury to Reagor (undisclosed), Harris has already had opportunities to compete for a boundary wide receiver role along with rookie fifth-round pick KeAndre Lambert-Smith.
Jalen Reagor
Jalen Reagor Misses Wednesday's practice
Thu, Jul 24, 2025, 10:30 AM
Reagor (lower body) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The report notes that Reagor appeared to tweak something in his lower half during Tuesday's session. With Reagor -- who Popper notes had been working consistently with the first-team offense as an outside receiver early on in training camp -- sidelined, 2025 second-rounder Tre Harris saw added first-team reps Wednesday. In the wake of Mike Williams' retirement, Harris, Derius Davis, Reagor (when available) and KeAndre Lambert-Smith are in line to compete for WR slotting behind Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.
Nyheim Miller-Hines
Nyheim Hines Joins the Bolts
Mon, Jul 21, 2025, 6:08 PM
Hines signed with the Chargers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The running back was looking for an opportunity after missing the last two seasons with a torn ACL suffered in a jet-ski accident, and now he'll get one in an LA backfield led by Najee Harris (eye) and Omarion Hampton. The depth chart is pretty open behind those two, and Hines has the added benefit of offering potential as a kick returner, seeing as he recorded 554 kickoff-return yards and two touchdowns during the 2022 regular season. Hines has also caught at least 30 passes in all five of his pro campaigns.
Quentin Johnston
Quentin Johnston Battling to keep X receiver spot
Mon, Jul 21, 2025, 8:52 AM
Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said Johnston, Tre Harris and Jalen Reagor can play the X receiver spot, Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.
Analysis: Johnston handled the role for most of 2024, posting a 55-711-8 receiving line in 15 regular-season games while more than doubling his yards per route (1.85) compared to an ugly rookie campaign. It was a clear step forward for the 2023 first-round pick, but he still left some big plays on the field, dropping seven passes and struggling in contested-catch situations. The Chargers responded by signing Mike Williams -- who has since retired -- and using a second-round pick on Harris to give Johnston competition for the X receiver spot. Johnston's name is the first one Roman mentioned when discussing the position in response to Williams' recent retirement.
Jaylen Johnson
Jaylen Johnson Back in action
Sun, Jul 20, 2025, 5:22 PM
Johnson (undisclosed) was activated from the active/PUP list Sunday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Johnson will return to practice after opening training camp on the sidelines with an undisclosed injury. The wide receiver will look to make a good impression with Los Angeles in the coming weeks in an attempt to secure a spot on the team's 53-man roster in 2025.
Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert Sharp to begin training camp
Thu, Jul 17, 2025, 3:56 PM
Herbert looked in midseason form on the first day of training camp Thursday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
Analysis: Herbert's highlights Thursday included a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Reagor and a sharp performance in red-zone drills. Reagor's expected to be a supporting piece in a Chargers wide receiver room that drafted rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the second and fifth round, respectively, while retaining Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis. Harris is slated to sign his rookie contract with the Chargers after agreeing to terms with the team Thursday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Mike Williams plans to retire from the NFL rather than play out the one-year deal he signed with the Chargers in March.
Tre' Harris
Tre Harris Signing rookie deal with Chargers
Thu, Jul 17, 2025, 3:25 PM
Harris is slated to sign his rookie contract with the Chargers after agreeing to terms with the team Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Harris initially was unsigned as the Chargers' training camp opened up, but the 2025 second-rounder now is poised to rejoin his teammates at practice after reaching an agreement with the franchise on the same day that it was revealed that veteran wideout Mike Williams planned to retire. As the coming season approaches, Harris will have an opportunity to carve out a key role (that could yield lineup utility in deeper fantasy formats) in a WR corps that also features Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston, with Derius Davis, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Jalen Reagor also on hand to compete for targets.
Mike Williams
Mike Williams Planning to retire
Thu, Jul 17, 2025, 12:51 PM
Williams plans to retire from the NFL, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Chargers had placed Williams on the active/PUP list Monday, but the wideout now has elected to step away from the game as a player. With the 2017 first-rounder no longer in the mix, Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and unsigned rookie Tre Harris profile as the team's top three WRs. After spending last season with the Jets and Steelers, Williams was slated to return to the team that drafted him after signing a one-year deal with Los Angeles in March. Instead, he'll conclude his NFL career with 330 catches for 5,104 yards and 32 TDs over the course of 106 games.
Najee Harris
Najee Harris Officially placed on NFI list
Thu, Jul 17, 2025, 11:07 AM
Harris was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Chargers on Thursday.
Analysis: Per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com, Harris, who sustained an eye injury as the result of a fireworks mishap on July Fourth, isn't expected to remain on the list long, according to Chargers GM Joe Hortiz. Once the running back is ready to return to the field, he'll be able to resume practicing, but until then 2025 first-rounder Omarion Hampton figures to see added first-team reps, with Hassan Haskins, Kimani Vidal, Jaret Patterson and Raheim Sanders also currently in the team's backfield mix.
Najee Harris
Najee Harris Bound for active/NFI list
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 3:40 PM
GM Joe Hortiz said Wednesday that Harris likely will begin training camp on the active/non-football injury list as doctors continue to monitor the eye injury that he suffered during a fireworks incident at a Fourth of July event, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Harris remains in the Bay Area as of Wednesday afternoon but is expected to report to The Bolt in El Segundo, Calif. later in the day. Hortiz noted the Chargers have yet to ascertain the extent of Harris' injury, but his agent has called it a "superficial" one, per Thuc Nhi Nguyen of the Los Angeles Times. Once Harris joins his teammates, L.A. is expected to make the aforementioned transaction, but he'll be able to practice as soon as he passes a physical. How Harris and rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton fare in training camp and the preseason should determine the breakdown of RB touches between the duo at the start of the regular season.
Najee Harris
Najee Harris Should practice soon
Tue, Jul 15, 2025, 8:32 AM
Harris (eye) isn't expected to miss much time at the start of training camp, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The running back isn't expected to miss any games after suffering an eye injury during a fireworks incident at a 4th of July event. Harris' agent Doug Hendrickson said last week that the injury is "superficial" and won't prevent the running back from being ready for the start of the season. Assuming the reports are accurate and his vision isn't impacted, Harris likely will open the season sharing snaps/touches with Omarion Hampton, the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 Draft. The nature of that split is anyone's guess, with Harris profiling as a jack-of-all-trades while Hampton is likely the more explosive pure runner.
